About the Mandir

Sankat Mochan Mandir is situated at the heart of Lucknow, Capital of largest State of India, Uttar Pradesh. This temple of Lord Hanuman is one of the most revered temples of U.P. The unique thing about this temple is that many a devotees write letters to Lord

Hanuman describing their problems and all letters are read before the Lord and Lord Hanuman shower thy blessings to the devotees.

The temple was conceived by His Holiness Baba Neeb Karauri, who had got a small temple built on the bank of river Gomati. In 1960, when the flood waters swept most of Lucknow, the old bridge near the temple was swept away. The old temple was also swept by the flood leaving only the statue of Lord in the middle. The Government allotted a new plot near the new bridge for the construction of the temple. The construction of the present temple began with the blessing of His Holiness Baba Neeb Karauri. The design was made by architect Shri Kanvinde Rai. Joshi & Co., which built the nearby bridge, constructed the temple. The one-piece whole marble 6.5 ft. (197.3 cm) Idol was sculpted in Jaipur. Pran Pratishtha of the temple was performed by His Holiness Baba Neeb Karauri on the Basant Panchami day on January 26, 1967. The temple has an oval puja hall, which has a sitting capacity of 250 persons. The Idol is visible from all corners of the puja hall and also from the road.

The frescoes in the temple are very beautiful. There are cement bust of Lord Ram & Sita on one side and Lord Ram and Lakshman along with the vanar sena performing Shiv Puja (Setu Bandh Rameshwaram Scene) on the wall. The beautiful architectural design is a perfect blend of old with new.

The uniqueness of the temple is its transparency in all its operations confirming faith of the trust and its officials in the teachings of His Holiness Baba Neeb Karauri, who took samadhi on 10 the September 1973 at Vrindavan, another holy town in UP. Nothing is taken by the temple even from the Prasadam, Vastra (clothes) and other articles offered to Lord. Still if any items (clothes etc.) are gifted by the devotees and are not taken back, then the said items are gifted to the artists who participate in the annual day (Varshikotsawa) held on 26th January each year.

The Temple Trust like any other concerned citizen has taken all the steps to ensure that the temple does not in any way contribute to the environmental pollution in any form. All the flowers offered to Lord are put in specially constructed pits so that the same is converted into manure, which is later distributed free to the devotees. The hallmark of the temple is its cleanliness, which adds to its beauty. The temple trust runs a Homeopathic charitable dispensary (Dharmik Chikitsalaya). The trust also provides food to more than hundred people everyday as part of its Anna Sewa. There is held a programme of devotional music (Bhakti Sangeet) on every Sunday. Various discourses on Shreemad Bhaagwat Gita and Shree Ram Charit Manas are also held from time to time. The flower decoration of the temple is done everyday and it could be booked by the devotees in advance. Similarly the clothes for the Idol are offered by the devotees who book the same in advance. The advance bookings for the floral and clothes decoration for the next four months are allotted by the trust in the presence of the devotees through a lottery system. Suggestions are always welcome for improvements.
